Even as the world seems in chaos,
a new frontier of human evolution is emerging.

We’ve mastered the external world — splitting atoms, mapping the genome, and going to the moon.

But we’ve neglected the inner world — the worlds of emotion, relationships, trauma, and purpose.

And that neglect is now rippling out everywhere on our planet.

Fortunately the inner world has patterns, just like the external world – and these patterns can also be mastered.

Each of us is being called to master the patterns of our own inner world.

We believe that if these inner skills can become part of our cultural habits -- that is, as common as reading and writing -- then our minds will transform.

And if our minds transform, then positive change will ripple throughout our world.

This is a significant evolutionary moment for our species.

What we do

At the Hope Movement, we envisage a future in which inner skills have become as common as reading and writing – leading to greater prosperity, peace, regeneration and collective sanity.

Our mission is to inspire and support people to develop these skills through coaching, courses, and educational resources.

Once people are inspired to grow, they often hit a major obstacle: disorientation.

There are thousands of practices for working on the inner world — mindfulness, meditation, therapy, somatics, breathwork, shamanism, ecstatic dance, contemplative traditions, and more.

Each seems to be part of the puzzle, yet few seem to cover the whole terrain.

That’s why we created The Hope Map — a comprehensive framework for how inner skills evolve over time (learn more about it here).

Think of it like a GPS for human development — helping you orient, identify what matters most, and choose the most powerful practices to support your goals.

All of our offerings are designed around this simple yet powerful map.

Meet the Founder

The Hope Movement was started by Jordan Bakker in 2026.

For over 15 years, Jordan has worked to bring about positive change in himself and in the world.

His work to bring about change in the external world has included time as a human rights and environmental advocate with Displacement Solutions, a school teacher and a school transformation change agent with the Centre for Multicultural Youth, as well as a collaborator on innovative mental health and wellbeing initiatives with Unconditional Self-Therapy, Integrative Psychology and Medicine and the Integrative Attachment Therapy Institute.

His work to bring about change in his internal world has consisted of meditation, self-inquiry, therapy and many other transformative practices, with some highlights including...

Integral Theory
Jordan was mentored by the spiritual teacher, author and philosopher, Terry Patten, in the integral tradition, helping him set up the organisation A New Republic of the Heart. Jordan co-founded Integral Melbourne, a community based on Integral Theory, which ran over 100 community and meditation events.

Christianity
Jordan grew up practicing Christianity, with one grandfather, Fred Wiesmayr, having started and pastored a German Baptist Church, and the other, Dirk Bakker, working as missionary and facilitator of Dale Carnegie workshops in Papua New Guinea. Jordan is currently completing training with the Centre for Action and Contemplation (Father Richard Rohr).

Kashmir Shaivism
Jordan studied for 8 years in the tantric nondual yoga tradition of Kashmir Shaivism with Mahamandaleshwar Swami Shankaranda, including living in his ashram for 2 years. However, Jordan eventually left the community on ethical grounds. He trained with and was coached by Sally Kempton.

Buddhism & Qi Gong
Jordan studied meditation with Harvard Professor, Dr Daniel P Brown and Geshe Sonam in the Tibetan Karma Kagyu and Bon traditions. He has completed meditation retreats with these two teachers, as well as with a number of other teachers (Zhula Rinpoche, Lama Choedak Rinpoche, Lama David Christensen, Lama Surya Das, Vipassana with S. N. Goenka, Qi Gong with Master Liu), totaling over 100 days on retreat.

Ecstatic Dance
Jordan has practiced ecstatic dance weekly for over ten years. He has completed embodied movement retreats in Five Rhythms with David Juriansz and in Open Floor with Kathy Altman, Lori Saltzman & Geordie Jahner. He facilitated a series of ecstatic dance events called The Groove Lab.

Jordan is a certified Heroic life coach. He has a Bachelor of Arts (First Class Honours in Psychology), a Masters of Applied Teaching Practice (Secondary), and is completing a Masters of Clinical Psychology.* He is co-editor of The Climate Change and Displacement Reader (2012).
